Onishi Gallery is pleased to share the article on Wajima lacquer artists and the region as the centuries-old center for producing lacquerware. The Gallery together with KOGEI USA, a not for profit held an exhibition “The Spirit of Noto: Urushi Artists of Wajima and Waves of Resilience” in October 2024 featuring masterpieces by leading lacquer artists in Wajima to help reconstruct their community of skilled artists after the destruction caused by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake on January 1, 2024. This article will contribute to the recovery of Wajima and its preservation as the home of the beauty of lacquer.
