“We want to preserve core lacquer (shinshitsu) technique for future generations.”
Developing a technique entirely distinct from traditional lacquerware crafts such as Wajima-nuri, Yamagishi-shokado created a new method that does not use conventional bases or wooden cores—factors that typically contribute to deterioration. Instead, the work is produced using 100% Japanese lacquer alone, through an original artistic technique called “Shinshitsu” (core lacquer).
